A call to nursing

A caretaker at heart, James McAvoy never envisioned himself as a nurse, but here he shares with Nathan Buck the events that led him to go back to school to become an RN. The night James found out his mother's cancer had returned and had only three months to live, he was brutally attacked on the street and barely survived. Having already lost his father to cancer, and now faced with his mother’s terminal diagnosis, James saw discrepancies in medical care between men and women. The desire to make sure men and women got equal medical treatment was a calling he couldn't ignore. Edit credit: Sean Collins
