Camilo was motivated to pursue a career in healthcare, inspired by his father—an educated man who held three college degrees, including one in nursing. His father's experiences, including working under the Castro regime and subsequently joining the resistance before defecting to Puerto Rico and ultimately settling in Los Angeles, deeply influenced him.
