A mother's compassion spurs action

Carmen fell into the role of advocate for transgender healthcare when she saw the hurt in her transgender son’s eyes after a doctor’s visit where he was disrespected. Knowing she needed to fix the situation, she began to make calls – one was to Providence’s Institute for Human Caring. It was there she found help. The Institute recognized the passion Carmen had to ensure everyone is treated fairly and asked her to join its Patient Family Advisory Council. Edit credit: Sean Collins
