On March 31, 1957, Col. James A. Manning’s arrived in Seattle to report to duty at Fort Lewis. He and his daughter Michele recount the story of how on his drive to the Pacific Northwest, Col. Manning became enamored with the beautiful mountains and felt a comfort there he hadn’t experienced in other places.
