From Cuba to California

Gemma Fernandez, 78, shared her journey with her supervisor John Mercado. Initially aspiring to be a secretary in Cuba, she fled to the United States due to political unrest, learned English, and pursued nursing. Despite challenges, including multiple jobs and raising three children, Gemma became a nurse in 1983. Over 27 years, she served at St. Joseph's and Providence Home Health in Garden Grove.
