Reflections of Resilience

  • Featuring: Ronald King & Lorri King
  • Date Submitted: Jan 23, 2025
  • Location: Washington

Lorri's dad, Ron, recalled President Roosevelt's Executive Order 9066 and its impact on Japanese Americans who were put in internment camps, a significant part of his early memories. He described life in wartime Seattle, seeing troops leaving and POWs sweeping streets. Despite post-war prejudice, Ron served in the military from 1963 to 1965, attended the University of Miami during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and witnessed the intense military presence. His story is one of resilience and determination amid historical upheavals. Edit Credit: Alison Jacques
